is about a run-in with the secret service and president clinton. what happened there? >> well, it was jackie robinson day, the first ever that they had, and they were going to retire jackie robinson's number, 42, throughout all of baseball, and president clinton decided the night before that he kind of wanted to be a part of the ceremonies. overnight shea stadium transformed into something that more resembled la guardia airport that there were metal detectors placed all over the place, and mr. met, myself at the time, couldn't get his big noggin through a lot of the metal detectors which caused a backlog in the line. you know, there was a little bit of metal in my head. the wands would go off when nypd was frisking me. they threw me up against the wall and put the cuffs on me. secret service was having none of that. they kind of -- they kind of, like, took me aside and said, mr. met, we're not going to bother you anymore. do what it is you normally do, but just so you know, there's snipers all around the ring of the stadium. approach the president, we go for the kill shot. >>

at straws to try to hurt hillary clinton or whatever. you can see the global media doesn't care. >> we saw the general testifying yesterday, getting emotional saying, you know, it could have been prevented had the state department really sort of tipped them off. and so my question at newt. let me throw this at you, you know, if hillary clinton does run in 2016, how does she answer those questions about what her state department did or did not do? >> she has a real challenge because last month, for example, more tweets about benghazi than there were about hillary clinton. this isn't going to go away. it's really about honesty and about accountability and transparency. but i do want to say a word and praise the white house press corps. this was the wrong place to raise that issue. it's a big deal. i think they focused on ukraine correctly. >> okay. let me end with this, something the three of us were talking about at commercial break. i do want to talk about basketball with you two. and newt, i know you are the ideas guy and i know you have an idea when it comes to the ownership of the l.a.

petraeus setting next to former secretary of state hillary clinton, correct? >> well, i think that's the key. we start to look at this as bringing all the pieces together. we've had a number of hearings both on foreign affairs and ogr and a lot of differecommittees. this brings it together, focuses in and brings justice. that's what the american people want. we want justice and now's the time to do that. >> so what do you see as far as timing? when is this going to happen? >> certainly that is unfolding as we speak. and when the actual vote will happen in the house, i know that leadership is discussing that now. i expect it to be sooner than later. as we see that, bringing together committees and staff to go ahead and focus on that, simultaneously, though, the subpoena for secretary kerry will go ahead. so hopefully we'll get a little bit more truth by may 21st when he's required to testify. >> congressman mark meadows, north carolina, thank you for your time today. >>> now for more on the select committee, let's go to catherine herridge who's live in washington with the breaking d

it is a good issue to it motivate their base. and hillary clinton secretary of state at the time of the attacks it doesn't hurt them and they will continue to hammer her as well. >> is it just motivating the base or something that needs to be explained to the american people. >> there are two schools of thought. bud mckey who is chairman of the house armed committee who believes that there was no order given to stand down and the military didn't do anything wrong and while wanting to know more why the people die and tragedy occurred is not throwing blame around and said barak obama and hillary clinton have blood. and then others say they purposely let four people die. >> and there are some who wanted to know what happened in the future. and that is a lesson going forward. guy, with the information provided by the new batch of e-mails, it is more about what happened that night but the white house approach to explaining what happened that night or defusing what happened that night. >> this is not republicans. this is the truth. john, the biggest questions pertaining to benghazi have to do immedia

, hillary clinton, secretary of state during this, why not put mud on hillary clinton's tires ahead of 2016 when a lot of folks feel she'll be the presumptive nominee. >> it does seem it looms large. yes, benghazi is mentioned in passing but it's clear that the quotes that these republicans are taking issues with are about the broader range of protest happening in the region which were linked to a video, not a coordinated attack. do you think in light of that these attacks will hold water? >> it's an interesting thing, if you go out throughout the country, ronan, folks who subscribe to the conservative media, they are obsessed with this issue. the general public wake up worried about what happened in benghazi? probably not, probably more concerned about the economy and future holds for their children. when you take into the complicated dynamics that are the house gop and internal politics, you sort of see as to why boehner moved forward on this. i personally do not think this is going to be the end all, be all issue of the 2014 midterms, americans care a lot more about other things. nancy p

then secretary of state hillary clinton on september 11th, 2012, at 10:07 p.m. before the attack was over linked benghazi violence to the video. we believe this is the first public statement to make that connection. on "special report" last night bret baier asked what information was mrs. clinton relying on at that time? >> who tells hillary clinton at 10:00 p.m. to put out this statement, that says, some have sought to justify this vicious behavior. the announcement has already happened about the benghazi attack. as a response to inflammatory material posted on the internet. the united states deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. our commitment is to religious tolerance. goes back to the very beginning of our nation. let me be clear. there is never any justification for violent acts at anytime. at 10:00 p.m. eastern time this is still going on this attack. where does that come from. >> i don't know. >> reporter: little is actually known about the president's whereabouts about the night on attack. when pressed former spokesman said the president was not in
